County Farm Park - Lamp Post Inn Information

If your looking for fun, warm weather activities within walking distance of the Lamp Post Inn, then look no farther than the County Farm Park!  The County Farm Park is located at the southwest corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Platt Road and is just a short walk from the Lamp Post Inn.

This 141 acre park was originally the location of a poor house and insane asylum from the 1830's to the 1920's, later it was converted into the Washtenaw Infirmary until it was shut down in the 1970's.  Talk about some interesting history!  By the 1990's the land had fully transitioned into the wonderful park it is today.

County Farm Park is host to many different kinds of nature trails.  There is a walking trail through the Britton Woods Nature Area, an 18-acre wood lot designed to be a reflection of the Ann Arbor landscape in pre-settled times.  You can also journey through the Country Farm Nature Area which was originally agricultural land but has been re-naturalized, and is a great spot for birdwatching.  In addition to these two areas there is a perennial garden, walking/jogging/biking trails, a playground, picnic areas and a community garden.

Judy Collins has thrilled audiences worldwide with her unique blend of folksong interpretations and contemporary themes. Her career has spanned more than 50 years. In 1961 Judy released her first album, "A Maid of Constant Sorrow." at the age of 22 and began a 35-year association with Elektra Records. She interpreted the songs of fellow artists, particularly the social poets of the time such as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and Tom Paxton. Judy was instrumental in bringing singer-songwriters to a wider audience, including Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Randy Newman. Judy's career has included new album releases in every decade since the 1960s, and she's written books including "Sanity & Grace," a memoir focusing on the death of her only son and the healing process that followed. Judy Collins is still a relentlessly creative spirit who's writing, performing 80 to 100 dates a year, and nurturing fresh talent. -excerpt taken from theark.org
